This just in as of 6am this morning - there was an error on our Junior High Schedule (thank you so much to the parents that alerted us to it) but coach just informed us that this Wednesday's meet against New Castle is at HOME. We apologize. We are currently adding on slots on the Snack Shack Schedule and if we can get parents to work the meet there will be a snack shack but if not there's really nothing we can do at this late hour. Please sign up with the anticipation of working but a phone call or two will be made Tuesday night confirming. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Track updates for the week of March 31-April 6

Wow only a few more days to our first home meets of the season, please make an effort to come stand along the fence and cheer our athletes on, we usually have a great parental attendance at meets and it really makes our athletes excel.

Reminder emails were sent out for snack shack sign ups, the last of chocolate sales, water/pop donations and the family contributions. We apologize if anyone did these things and our records are wrong, please drop me a note back and we'll make the correction. Riverside Track has 111 athletes this season and sometimes we make mistakes. We are happy to correct them.

April 13th, 8pm we are having a guest bar-tender night at Big Dawgs Bar & Grill  708 Lawrence Avenue as just a fun fundraiser for the  teams - please feel free to come out and join us - if anyone wants to donate a basket for a auction that would be great. Contact Sally Gould for more information at bsgould@zoominternet.net

Robbyn Snyder will be in charge of Senior Recognition on 4/22 - forms are available on the website and she will be contacting you as we get closer.

Look for information and forms later this week for team pictures coming up next week.

Beaver County Championship -

Ads for the Championship Meet Ad Book are rolling - don't forget the deadline for those is April 13th - additional forms are on the website

We are setting up two tents at the gate one for admission ($2 for adults, $1 for students) the second for t shirt and program sales  - volunteers are still needed. Varsity Parents are welcome to work Jr High meets and the-other-way-around we are one team that works together for the goal of our children. We welcome all parental participation.

The next booster meeting will be April 15th at 6:30 pm at the Track in the Pressbox because the middle school meet will be just concluding and it’s easiest for most to attend that way. All are welcome.

Good luck this week :) - Home vs Beaver Fall is Tuesday and Jr High is away at New Castle on Wednesday - so glad the weather is finally turning!

THE SCRIMMAGE THIS AFTERNOON AT WILMINGTON HAS BEEN CANCELED

From the Desk of Coach Knab:
MS Practice this week m-f until 4

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Is there something lucky about scrimmaging in the snow? Dress warm varsity athletes for the Scrimmage on Monday at New Wilmington

Friday the Varsity team will be at Wilmington for their annual Wilmington Relays - for those of you new to track the Wilmington Relays are an annual event and a lot of fun to watch. If you have the time it's worth the drive.

We are down to only having to sell off 24 more bags of chocolate so if anyone can take an extra bag that would be great. Because of the varsity scrimmage this will only be on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons this week - look for one of our volunteers to be sitting down at the track unless it's REALLY miserable in which case they'll be outside the gym doors.

Some of you are hearing from us for the first time because we have just now firmed up the rosters and gotten your contact information - to get caught up on our news, schedules, meetings, snack shack sign ups, etc. please go to http://www.RiversideTrackBoosters.com

The candy can be picked up by each athlete at the field after practice the week of March 4 and must be paid for at that time.   Again, if you sell all the candy, you will recuperate the $30.   If you take one bag, you owe $30...two bags $60 and so on.

Please take a moment to sign up for your shack shack shift on the snack shack tab on the right hand side of this page.

Friday, March 8th - Final deadline to have your physical sign off sheet (students who have participated in another sport already this school year only need to complete section 5).  Please have your students review the Student Athlete Handbook that is on the district’s site and be sure to sign and return the student athlete sign off form. Also starting March 4, please turn in your beverage donation for the snack shack. Welcome to the 2013 Season of Riverside Track

Dear Parents and Athletes,

We have already begun preparations for the 2013 season. We welcome all our parents’ attendance at the meetings to get your input in the planning and decisions of the track boosters organization.

Please go to our website for continued contact from boosters throughout the season. If you are receiving this letter by mail, that means we do NOT have your email address.  Please help us save our hard-earned dollars by contacting Dawn Wehman with your email address. On the website, we have meet schedules, fundraiser information, directions to away meets, end-of-the-season picnic information and so much more delivered straight to your desktop! All information transmitted through the coaching staff supersedes what you may obtain on the site - they know what's going on faster than we do and sometimes forget to ask us to update the website accordingly, but we will try to keep you informed as much as possible.

**URGENT** We are currently looking for someone who would run our MIDDLE SCHOOL snack shack this year.   We only have four home meets so the commitment is minimal. We already have several experienced helpers for shopping and sign ups, but we need someone to head them up and be in charge of the concession stand.  LOTS of good help promised!!

Look for online sign ups for the snack shack coming up before each Jr. High and Varsity meet - donations and parental help are essential to the success of our program.   Please make sure you sign up for at least one meet this year and then the Beaver County Invitational or the Middle School Invitational. The more parents who help with fundraising projects, concession stand duties, picnic, etc. the lighter the load for the few of us!

We will be doing a mandatory Anderson candy sale at $30 per bag (30 candy bars at $1 each) PER ATHLETE...if you sell all of your candy, you will recuperate all of your money.  The candy can be picked up by each athlete at the field after practice the week of March 4 and must be paid for at that time.   Again, if you sell all the candy, you will recuperate the $30.   If you take one bag, you owe $30...two bags $60 and so on.

In addition to the fundraiser, each family is asked to donate  $30 PER FAMILY.  This check is due April 3rd for Middle School Teams and April 2nd for Varsity Athletes.  CHECKS ONLY PLEASE, for both the candy and donation, should be made out to Riverside Track Boosters.  Please indicate in the memo section of the check your son/daughter’s name to make it easier for us to track.  Funds raised will pay for the end-of-the-season picnic and gifts and awards for our athletes. The candy fundraiser and the $30 donation per family will be the only money asked from you from the boosters for track.

Also starting March 4, please turn in your beverage donation for the snack shack. Please label your donations in Sharpie with your family name on them to make it easier for us to track who’s donated and who hasn’t. These can be left at concession stand at the end of practice and your coach will help you load into the stand.

7th, 8th and 12th  Grade: 2 cases (24 ct) of water

9th, 10th and 11th Grade: 1 case (24 ct) of pop

Some important dates that we know of already:

  • February 27th - The next Booster Meeting will be at 7PM LGI at the high school.
  • March 4th - Mandatory Mon-Fri Practices Begin – these will go through the month of April but then trickle off as athletes go to WPIALS & States throughout May.  Middle School practices may start a little bit later and their season usually ends early May. Athletes will get a copy of their practice schedules and official meet schedules soon.
  • March 4th - Pick up your candy (and pay for at time of pick up) any day this week, plus start turning in your water or pop.
  • March 8th - last day to turn in your water/pop and pick up your candy.
  • March 8th - Final deadline to have your physical sign off sheet (students who have participated in another sport already this school year only need to complete section 5).  Please have your students review the Student Athlete Handbook that is on the district’s site and be sure to sign and return the student athlete sign off form. All of these can be found on the schoo's website at: http://www.riverside.k12.pa.us/pages/Riverside_Beaver_CSD/Athletics  No extensions will be given.
  • March 8th - Last day to give your coaches the required $5 trainer fee; make this $5 check payable to Riverside Beaver County School District. No extensions will be given.

  • Wednesday, April 10 - Riverside will be hosting a Junior High Invitational Meet. Please, if you have a Jr High Athlete, plan on working during this important meet.
  • Saturday, April 20 - Riverside will be hosting the Beaver County Championship.  We will need lots of help for that meet, which is our big fundraiser of the season. Various opportunities are making food, working in the concession stand, grilling burgers and hot dogs, selling t- shirt and  soliciting for a 50-50.  Please plan to send a family representative for at least a two-hour shift on that day.  Sign ups will be available on the website.
  • April 22nd will be Varsity Track’s Senior Night - more on that TBA.
  • May 29th – Picnic at Concord United Methodist Church’s pavilion. Details will follow.
  • Please make sure you download either the high school meet schedule or the middle school meet schedule off the website.

The first meeting of the Riverside Track and Field Boosters will be on:

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 7PM in the
Large Group Instruction Room (LGI) of the High School

All booster meetings are for both the Varsity and Middle School Track and Field Teams. Parents, athletes and coaches are welcome to attend. An email is being sent out to past participants in hopes you are returning but if your child is not returning or if you think your son or daughter has friends who might be joining, please let us know.

A letter will go out to the athletes after this meeting explaining expectations of them, practice and meet schedules for the season and, from the boosters, a welcome letter to the parents that will include important dates and what we expect as far as snack shack and monetary and food donations for the season that will help the track program so that your son/daughter can have a great experience with track and field.

We look forward to seeing you there.
